Lucky Catch delivers one of Portland's most authentic and engaging maritime experiences, with visitors consistently praising the crew's infectious enthusiasm and deep knowledge of lobstering. The hands-on nature sets this apart: guests fill bait bags, haul traps, band lobsters, and learn fascinating details about the industry from captains and crew who clearly love what they do. Several reviews mention crew members' teaching backgrounds, which shows in how well they engage everyone from young children to grandparents. Even rainy weather doesn't dampen the experience, with multiple guests noting that getting soaked somehow made the adventure feel more genuine. What makes this especially memorable is the chance to purchase lobsters caught during the cruise for around $10, then walk them next door to Portland Lobster Company for cooking. The educational component runs deeper than expected, covering everything from lobster life cycles to Portland's maritime history, with fun bonuses like feeding the resident seagull. The crew's commitment to customer service shines through, with one captain personally calling guests to resolve a booking mix-up. It's an interactive, informative outing that consistently ranks as the highlight of people's Maine trips.

An awesome experience and a hands on way to learn about the lobstering industry. The crew was friendly and knowledgeable. You’ll get to fill bait bags, pull and set lobster traps, and see many historical sites along the way. At the end of the voyage you can pick your own lobster from the boat for $10/lobster and take it to the Portland Lobster Company next door where they will cook it for $12.95.
